A Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan is an alternative and affordable option offered by private insurance companies funded by Medicare.
Typically, MA/MAPD plans have additional benefits and a maximum out-of-pocket limit. Enrollment and dis-enrollments are accepted only during special enrollment periods or elections. Coverage options will vary by plan, state, and county.
MA/MAPD Plans have the same part B monthly premium (state assistance available for qualifying individuals) as Original Medicare. There is no premium for Part A unless the individual has worked less than 40 quarters/10 years.
